The University of California, via the California Digital Library, maintains a subscription with Oxford University Press that includes access to the Journal of Experimental Botany (JXB).  JXB allows authors from subscribing institutions to publish open access at no additional cost.

Corresponding authors who are affiliated with any UC campus, UC Office of the President, or Lawrence Berkeley Lab.

What journals are covered?

The Journal of Experimental Botany, a hybrid journal in which the majority of research papers are Open Access.

What is the discount?

UC-affiliated corresponding authors are offered free Open Access publication.

How can I apply this discount?

Free OA publication is automatically applied to articles submitted by a corresponding author affiliated with the University of California.

What licenses are available?

Creative Commons licenses CC BY, CC BY-NC, and CC BY-NC-ND.

What is the business model behind this arrangement?

The Journal of Experimental Botany offers this OA option to all institutional subscribers independently of license negotiations; it is not explicitly included in subscription agreements.  The University of California does not directly pay for this discount, nor does UC receive any refund on subscription costs when UC-affiliated authors publish in JXB.  While the majority of research papers in JXB are now Open Access, JXB continues to maintain subscription revenue by also publishing opinion papers and review articles which are not openly available alongside their OA content.
