Faculty at UC Davis Health in collaboration with the California Digital Library (CDL) and Blaisdell Medical Library are pleased to announce the release of Ultrasound in Resource-Limited Settings: A Case Based, Open Access Text. This new online resource aims to provide an open access clinical resource for radiologists and clinicians who practice ultrasound in low and limited resourced healthcare settings. UC reaches groundbreaking open access deal with leading global publisher

The University of California today (June 16) announced a transformative open access publishing agreement that will make more of the University’s research freely and immediately available to individuals and researchers across the globe. The deal furthers the global push for open access to scientific research by bringing together UC, which accounts for nearly 10 percent of all U.S. publishing output, and Springer Nature, the world’s second-largest academic publisher. ACM Open Access Agreement goes live
In January 2020, the University of California announced that it had signed an agreement with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), to make it easier for UC authors to publish open access in ACM journals, conferences, and magazines. We’re pleased to let you know that the workflow for this agreement is in effect as of May 13, 2020. How does the deal work? For all UC corresponding authors, open access is now the default publication option for research and review articles in any ACM journal, conference, or magazine. PLOS Open Access Agreement Goes Live
In February, the University of California announced that it had signed an agreement with the open access publisher, PLOS, to make it easier and more affordable for UC authors to publish in PLOS’ journals. We’re pleased to let you know that this agreement is in effect as of April 1! How does the deal work? University of California Issues Policy on Open Access for Theses and Dissertations
On March 25, 2020, the University of California issued a Policy on Open Access for Theses and Dissertations. The systemwide policy, which aligns with those already in place at individual UC campuses, “requires theses or dissertations prepared at the University to be (1) deposited into an open access repository, and (2) freely and openly available to the public, subject to a requested delay of access (“embargo”) obtained by the student.” Theses and dissertations already made open access can be read in eScholarship, UC’s open access repository and scholarly publishing platform. The Public Library of Science (PLOS) and the University of California (UC) today announced a two-year agreement that will make it easier and more affordable for UC researchers to publish in the nonprofit open access publisher’s suite of journals. The UC Libraries and Academic Senate Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication (UCOLASC) are co-sponsoring a short 3-minute poll to gauge the impact on loss of immediate access to current Elsevier content via ScienceDirect on the UC community. Update on UC’s open access negotiations with Elsevier and other journal publishers
As 2020 begins, the University of California is making notable progress in advancing open access to UC research in partnership with a diverse range of publishers. UC and Elsevier After formal negotiations stalled last year, UC and Elsevier have remained in informal conversations and are looking forward to continuing that dialogue. The parties are planning to hold a meeting to explore reopening negotiations within the first quarter of 2020.
