Thousands of older dissertations from UCSF newly available in eScholarship
Over three thousand dissertations and theses digitized from UCSF’s archives, originally submitted to the university between 1965 and 2006, were added to eScholarship this year. These titles cover topics as disparate as the pregnancy experiences of black women, AIDS and identity in the gay press of the 1980s, and models for examining the clearance of drugs from the liver. The University of California’s open access publishing program and institutional repository, eScholarship, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. COVID Tracking Project archives donated to UC
In March 2020 the COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic took on the responsibility of posting COVID-19 cases, testing, hospitalization, and death counts in the United States. The effort, led by The Atlantic and a team of 500 volunteers, proved to be invaluable when this key information was not otherwise reliably available as the worldwide pandemic unfolded. The entirety of the COVID Tracking Project archives have been donated to UCSF, in collaboration with California Digital Library. Doing it Right: A Better Approach for Software & Data
Researchers at UC and around the world now have access to streamlined workflows for publishing their research data and software – and linking the two – through Dryad and Zenodo. UC campuses and California Digital Library have long invested in open data initiatives and support for data publishing. In 2018, CDL partnered with Dryad, an open access data publishing platform. EarthArXiv Preprint Server Re-Launches on CDL-Hosted Janeway Platform
California Digital Library (CDL) is excited to announce the official re-launch of the EarthArXiv preprint server, now hosted by CDL on the Janeway platform. Ultrasound in Resource-Limited Settings: A Case Based, Open Access Text
Faculty at UC Davis Health in collaboration with the California Digital Library (CDL) and Blaisdell Medical Library are pleased to announce the release of Ultrasound in Resource-Limited Settings: A Case Based, Open Access Text. This new online resource aims to provide an open access clinical resource for radiologists and clinicians who practice ultrasound in low and limited resourced healthcare settings. University of California comments in response to 2020 OSTP RFI on public access to federally funded research
In February, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) issued an RFI requesting comment on how public access to federally funded research could be broadened, and in parallel, conducted a series of stakeholder meetings. As a participant in two of the meetings, I sensed broad alignment among all stakeholders — commercial publishers, society publishers, university administrators, librarians, faculty members and funders — in affirming their support of open access. Update on UC’s open access negotiations with Elsevier and other journal publishers
As 2020 begins, the University of California is making notable progress in advancing open access to UC research in partnership with a diverse range of publishers. UC and Elsevier After formal negotiations stalled last year, UC and Elsevier have remained in informal conversations and are looking forward to continuing that dialogue. The parties are planning to hold a meeting to explore reopening negotiations within the first quarter of 2020. New ACM Open Publishing Model Promises to Accelerate ACM’s Transition to Full Open Access New York, NY, January 23, 2020—ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, entered into transformative open access agreements with several of its largest institutional customers, including the University of California (UC), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Iowa State University (ISU).
