PLOS-to-EarthArXiv preprint submission is live
Preprints enable scholars to rapidly communicate research via open access and get feedback from their colleagues earlier in the publishing process. Recently, the Public Library of Science (PLOS), the EarthArXiv preprint server, and the California Digital Library launched a new service enabling authors who submit articles to participating PLOS journals to submit those same manuscripts to EarthArXiv simultaneously. Authors have begun to avail themselves of this opportunity, opting to make their work publicly available, citable, and open for feedback as EarthArXiv preprints before formal publication.

PLOS Open Access Agreement Goes Live
In February, the University of California announced that it had signed an agreement with the open access publisher, PLOS, to make it easier and more affordable for UC authors to publish in PLOS’ journals. We’re pleased to let you know that this agreement is in effect as of April 1! How does the deal work? PLOS and the University of California announce open access publishing agreement
The Public Library of Science (PLOS) and the University of California (UC) today announced a two-year agreement that will make it easier and more affordable for UC researchers to publish in the nonprofit open access publisher’s suite of journals. PLoS Announces Three New Journals
Leading open access publisher Public Library of Science, announces three new open-acces journals: PLoS Computational Biology, PLoS Genetics, and PLoS Pathogens. As with all PLoS journals, access is open to the public at no charge while production costs are covered by a mixture of sources including publication fees and institutional memberships. PLoS describes the new publications as “community journals” and is partnering with the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) on the first of these.

PLoS Publishes First Issue of PLoS Biology
The Public Library of Scienice (PLoS), a San Francisco-based non-profit organization of scientists and physicians, publishes the first issue of PLoS Biology, a monthly peer-reviewed journal available free online. The journal features several articles authored by UC San Francisco faculty.
