Following the adoption of the UC Senate Open Access Policy on July 24, 2013, the California Digital Library and its UC campus partners began working to build tools and services to support participation in the policy, including:
- A robust publication management system to automate discovery of UC-affiliated publications and simplify deposit into eScholarship, UC’s open access repository and publishing platform;
- A streamlined workflow for manually depositing articles into eScholarship; and
- A tool to support the generation of embargo, waiver, and addendum forms, at the author’s request.
The timeline for this work is summarized below:
November 2013: Manual deposit implemented for UCSF, UCLA, UCI; Office of Scholarly Communication site released
October 2014: 6-month review of OA Policy implementation by UCOLASC (University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication)
November 2014: Manual deposit implemented for remaining 7 UC campuses, contingent on Senate reviews
Jan – Mar 2015: Publication management system launched for Senate faculty at UCSF, UCLA, UCI
September 2015: Review of publication management system by UCOLASC (University Committee on Library and Scholarly Communication)
October 2015: Presidential Open Access Policy passed. Manual deposit implemented for all non-senate UC employees in accordance with this policy
Sept – Jan 2016: Publication management system to be implemented for Senate faculty at remaining 7 UC campuses.
We currently support a waiver/embargo/addendum request form for all 10 UC campuses.
Authors across the UC System, including those covered by the Presidential Open Access Policy, are welcome to deposit articles in eScholarship (UC’s open access repository and publishing platform) at any time.
