Office of Scholarly Communication
The University of California's Office of Scholarly Communication closed in 2007. It was founded in 2004 in response to:
- The continuing and deepening economic crises in scholarly communication.
- The broadening concern within the University of California about the impacts those crises are having on UC and on academic practices more generally.
- The growing desire within the University to seize opportunities to leverage technology and assist scholars in the use of new and sustainable means of scholarly communication.
- The need to support the UC libraries as they implement collaborative strategies, including the use of their buying power and their expertise, to address the crises and the opportunities.
The Office of Scholarly Communication facilitated internal partnerships among the UC libraries, faculty, and administration and, where appropriate, in concert with entities outside UC.
